Our Journey: From Passion to Patisserie

Steven began his journey in the lab as a biochemist, but realized while serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer his true calling was connecting people and spreading joy through food. His passion transformed into a love for the magic of baking—where science and creativity collide.

Connor, the heart of our kitchen and co-owner, is a young baker at just 25 years old who has perfected the art of French pastry. His passion lies in the craft and art of baking, bringing an old craft to life in a fresh, exciting way.

Together, they blend science, artistry, and a passion for community, creating an experience that delights and inspires. Buttered Up Bakery isn’t just about pastries; it’s about the joy that comes from sharing something wonderful, crafted with care. History

Buttered Up Bakery began in 2011 as Squarz Pies, offering gourmet all-natural square shaped hand pies at Phoenix-area farmers markets. In 2015 our growing community empowered us to open a café and bakery in Tempe. We slowly expanded our menu and continued our epic fight against mundane and boring food! In 2018, we opened our second cafe in North Scottsdale and in 2022 opened our third location, a dedicate production bakery and cafe. In 2023 we rebranded to Buttered Up Bakery to better reflect our expanding menu comforting, joy filled food (and our love of ultra premium European butter)!
